A remembrance day game to forget

Harris selected a back 5 with Mayor and Bennet playing as wing backs and Jobe coming in to the starting 11. A change in system and personnel was used to tackle the 2 strikers up front for Salford. Bagsman Udoh started for Salford. Former Premier League creator Borini was dropped following his penalty shootout victory last weekend in the FA Cup.

The U's were the better side in the opening quarter of the game. The U's looked to attack out wide with wingers and wing backs and got success from it. Despite getting in good areas it was Salford who had the best chance in the opening 25. It was no.10 N'mai who's close range shot was whiskers wide of the far post.

Salford did well to contain the United attack centrally. Salford looked to press in a way the Dutch national team did by suffocating the U's midfield to prevent any good passes out wide. Due to this, when the ball did go wide there was a lack of quality and Salford were able to win possession back.

The U's continued their defensive strength into the 2nd half. Harris clearly outlined a requirement of being more creative in the final third. Brophy was cutting in more and partnered with Bennet overlapping every attack, it became very hard to defend. Mpanzu also became the focus part of the midfield attack with his thunderous volley crashing off the woodwork.

Both sides looked to get out of 2nd gear and up to 4th as the last 10 minutes saw end to end drama.

Full time 0-0, a point on the road but overshadowed by awful officiating in the last few minutes as the referee refused to let United attack despite being 20-30 yards away from goal.
