Tristan Ivison proud after FA Youth Cup victory
Ely U18 started their season last night with an FA Youth Cup 5-1 win to book their ticket into the next round. The debutant coach went into the game wanting a strong performance, and a strong performance is what he got. Ely dominated from minute one, and it took just 10 minutes for fans to see the first goal of the night. Heacham fought back, but two goals in five minutes to end the first half gave Ely a massive lead going into the halftime break. The second half continued ju

U's add needed depth as Callum Perry joins on loan
Neil Harris openly spoke on new additions coming in in recent interviews and it has been now confirmed that Callum Perry has joined the club on a season loan from Coventry. After coming through Coventry's academy, the 20 year old spent the second half of the season on loan at Rochdale. He amassed 26 appearances and scored a penalty in their shootout win against Boreham Wood to promote the Dale to League Two. Perry will join the squad to Spain after already having trained Spai

While many, myself included, were on holiday Cambridge United made a multitude of signings and kit releases in June. Just a month after winning promotion to League One, Harris and Bonner brough in fantastic players across the pitch. It started with the signing of Callum stead on a free from Barnet. The lethal attacking midfielder signed on a 2 year deal and kick started the flurry of signings at the Abbey. Next was the signing of highly rated youngster Isaac Heath on a perman

United sign bagsman Stead to open summer window
After a quiet summer since the retained list came out, Cambridge United have snapped up the signing of Callum Stead on a 2 year deal. The 26 year old is coming off a great spell in League Two with Barnet, scoring 13 goals last season and 50 goals in his 124 appearances with the Bees. A fantastic 24/25 campaign saw Stead selected in the National League Team Of The Season whilst taking a clean sweep of Barnet's end of season awards. The former Luton academy prospect explained

Barry Corr departs Cambridge United
The former striker and assistant coach has departed Cambridge United after 11 years of phenomenal service. After scoring 2 goals in 51 games as a player, Corr transitioned into a coach and played an integral part of the promotion season in the 2020/21 season. The Irishman also held the fort twice as interim manager in both 2023 and 2024 including a 4-0 thrashing at home to Fleetwood in the FA Cup 2nd round. However as impressive he was on the pitch and in the dugout, he was a

Michael Morrison, James Brophy, Elias Kachunga, Korey Smith, Shayne Lavery, Shane McLoughlin, Ben Purrington and Harry Dawson have not had their contracts renewed. Player of the season, James Gibbons has also been offered an extension whilst Zeno Ibsen Rossi and Jake Eastwood have both triggered clauses in their contracts to keep them

Cambridge United are promoted
The U's simply had to better to match the results of the Notts County and Salford games. Notts County went 1-0 up at home to Bristol Rovers, however Rovers drew level in the 2nd half. With one result going in United's way, all focus then switched to Crawley vs Salford. A draw was won for the U's but with 2 minutes left in the Crawley game, a nervous scent clouded over the Mornflake Stadium. A clear penalty that wasn't given went against Salford led to the surprising 0-0 resul

The future of Cambridge football is here
The Cambridge Cobras have started their journey in non league like a cheater on a hunt. Both the men's and women's team have had great success in the 1st half of the season and picking up the deserved recognition across Cambridgeshire. Men's team Led by manager Gareth Matthews-Jones, the Cobras currently sit top of the Cambridgeshire County 4A division with 41 points from 17 games and a positive goal difference of 36. Which striker is coming to the Abbey
The U's enter 2026 on great form, a fantastic squad but still find themselves short of the promotion places. Harris will always be wanting to get better and a striker that can score and stay fit is all the U's need to secure a top 3 finish come May. Lavery and Appere have both had stints out in the physio room this campaign and Loft shouldn't be returning to the Abbey. This leaves either Kachunga or Kaikai to play through the middle which significantly takes away from their w

Throwback: Colchester United 3-1 Cambridge United
44 years ago to the day the U's travelled to Layer Road to face Colchester in the League Cup 2nd round 1st leg. With 3,844 in attendance the home side won comfortably 3-1. A first half goal by Cook saw the visitors 1-0 down at the break. Docherty urged his players to respond with fire but Colchester brought fire extinguishers. An 82nd minute McDonough goal gave the home side a safety net but 5 minutes later Gibbins gave the U's a fantastic goal back. Game on. Well, a minute l

U's wonderkids: Where are they now?
The U's have had their fair share of promising young players at the Abbey in recent years with many taking different directions in their footballing journey. We will take a deep dive on how much the academy has improved and what it's produced. Saleem Akanbi The Cambridge born winger was at the U's since under 9s and through his discipline on and off the pitch was offered a professional contract in 2022. He found a knack for the back of the net in youth football and fans were

Deadline day signing: Adam Mayor
4pm on deadline day. Isak going to Liverpool. Wissa to Newcastle. However, more importantly, Adam Mayor is announced as the final signing of the summer window for Cambridge United. The versatile left footed winger can cover every position across the left flank of the pitch. I could see him competing with Purrington and if not is an excellent substitute to bring on when chasing the game. The scouser has penned a 1 year loan coming from Millwall. At just 20 years old he has bag

Tactical analysis: Defensive shape
This season the U's have been painfully inconsistent. Keeping 1 clean sheet in the league in the opening 5 games and struggling to play consistently. The defensive issues have caused frustration in the fanbase as well as putting even more pressure on the forwards to bail the defensive woes out. This season we have seen a "swarming" method implemented. The logical question would be why. Either there is an arrogance from staff or players that they are "too good" for League 2 so

Welcome to League Two: Shrewsbury Town - Walsall
Shrewsbury Town Joining the U's in relegation from League One last season was Michael Appleton's Shrews. Finishing plum last come May was not on the plan for the Shrews, however appointing Appleton at the end of last season they could be on for a decent season and not face back to back relegations. They will be unable to make any impact in the playoff positions and will most likely see themselves in the midtable forgetfulness of League 2. The U's will head back to New Meadow

Summer signing no.9: Louis Appere
We have our no.9 before the season has started. This is not a drill. This is a real natural striker that has been signed for a fee. He goes by the name of Louis Appere and will in fact be wearing the no.9 shirt which may mean there will be no Loft on Saturday. He was a useful part of Northampton's League Two promotion side however has been unable to find the back of the net in the previous season. Appere is fit and ready to go which may mean no more Loft. 9 signings before a

Summer signing no.8: Shane McLoughlin
Following declining his contract extension at Newport County, the former Ipswich and AFC Wimbledon midfielder joins the U's on a 1 year deal. He has clearly impressed during his trial which included the most recent friendly fixture against Charlton Athletic. Many didn't know who he was before, however all will do now. He adds to the fairly weak numbers in midfield and can fill in as a full back on both sides. The New York born utility man has already been adored by fans after

New signing no.7 : Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu
The U's ended the 4 week wait for a new outfield signing and my gosh it was worth the wait. A lot of fans on social media have been irate with the lack of urgency from the club after Bonner and Harris both made some tough promises to keep. After speaking to Luton Town fans they have described U's number 17 as a strong, reliable midfielder who loves to pop up with a couple of screamers when pushing forward. Mpanzu made just shy of 30 Premier League appearances only 2 years ago

Welcome to League 2: Newport County - Salford City
Newport County Newport County are one of 4 Welsh teams in the English top 4 leagues. Sat in League 2, the lowest of the 4, The Exiles just about stayed up last season. Following their tight survival last season they are bound to be back down there this season. With David Hughes in charge, it is hard to identify how Newport County will set up. Following an unimpressive 9 year career as a player he is yet to make a splash as a manager which makes it very difficult to predict ho

Welcome to League 2: Fleetwood Town - MK Dons
Fleetwood Town We start our list with Fleetwood Town who had 3 reformations including the most recent one in 1997. Not to be mixed up with Arsenal, the Cod Army play their home games at Highbury. Holding just over 5,000 fans, it is one of the smallest in the division. The Fishermen finished 14th last season and with Pete Wild in charge they aren't expected to mount any challenge to the top half of the table, especially the playoff chasing teams. Fleetwood Town are not a good
