While many, myself included, were on holiday Cambridge United made a multitude of signings and kit releases in June. Just a month after winning promotion to League One, Harris and Bonner brough in fantastic players across the pitch.
It started with the signing of Callum stead on a free from Barnet. The lethal attacking midfielder signed on a 2 year deal and kick started the flurry of signings at the Abbey.
Next was the signing of highly rated youngster Isaac Heath on a permanent transfer from Everton. Heath comes off two unbelievable seasons after winning Player of the Season in 2024/25 for Everton's U21's and then establishing himself as a great talent during his spell at Accrington Stanley last season in League Two. Heath played in both games last season against United and impressed throughout his 33 appearances for Stanley.
A statement signing that the club is willing and able to sign played for a fee and especially one that has such great potential. A direct, quick and versatile winger who can play as a wing back down the left was welcomed with open arms by fans on social media.
Just 2 days later, a fantastic video from Max Rushden announced the new home kit. A plain, retro yellow home kit was released to the mix opinion of the fans. A kit like marmite. Either love it or hate it. The younger audience didn't understand such a yellow plain shirt but those either old enough to remember or with family who have always supported the club it was a great throwback to the plain simplistic kits the club had great success in.
George Munday left the club to join Premier League side Brighton after spending a decade at the club. A potentially big miss in the future for money in the door and a potential future fee in years to come can't be knocked.
Another amazing video from Max Rushden and the club saw the announcement of the beautiful blue away kit. With cult hero Armand One displaying the kit beautifully, the reaction on social media from fans was a lot better this time around.
Next came two signings in two days. First was the resigning of Shayne Lavery, to the joy of every fan who has been to the Abbey in the last few seasons. The 27 year old signed a 1 year deal was 'buzzing to be here' after some waiting time once the season had ended.
If one familiar face wasn't enough, how about two. Gassan Ahadme rejoined again on loan to bolster the attacking depth and quality in the new league. With the Gasman calling Cambridge home due to his wife's family being from the area, a perfect reunion is on the cards ahead of this league campaign.
Hours later, the release the third and my personal favourite kit was announced. A double pink stripped kit was out on show in the city centre as a bald Kell Watts put his new look to the test on social media. One X user tweeted 'Noooo his hair was majestic'.
To finish the day, the club announced the resigning of Shane McLoughlin on a 1 year deal. The 29 year old brings quality and depth in midfield as more signings are expected.
Finally the signing of experienced German centre back Patrick Bauer on a free from Wimbledon was welcomed as reinforcement at the back. Joining the best defence in the EFL, Bauer brings leadership, experience, ability and hard work to an already amazing defensive unit. A slow and slightly injury prone defender raises questions but with Jobe and Watts still leading the charge as the 2 starting centre backs, Bauer could be a key part of the puzzle to remain a League One club next season.
