United sign bagsman Stead to open summer window

After a quiet summer since the retained list came out, Cambridge United have snapped up the signing of Callum Stead on a 2 year deal. The 26 year old is coming off a great spell in League Two with Barnet, scoring 13 goals last season and 50 goals in his 124 appearances with the Bees. A fantastic 24/25 campaign saw Stead selected in the National League Team Of The Season whilst taking a clean sweep of Barnet's end of season awards.

The former Luton academy prospect explained his decision to move to newly promoted Cambridge United “I’m really pleased to be here. The chance to test myself in League One was a big factor for me and, after speaking with the club, it felt like the right move. They outlined how they want the team to play and I felt it was a style that would suit me and allow me to contribute."

Stead described himself as "a hardworking player who loves scoring goals." which is the perfect profile Harris and the fans have been looking for.

Harris went on to discuss the move, “I’m delighted to welcome Callum Stead to the football club. We saw a lot of him last season when playing against his Barnet side, and he was also a player who consistently caught the eye whenever we watched them. Callum is a tactically intelligent player who can operate anywhere behind the striker. His goals and assists last season were extremely impressive, and he brings a range of qualities that we believe will make us a real attacking threat in League One this year.”

Callum Stead is the first of many incoming players to the Abbey as the countdown to pre season is well and truly in the forefront of the fans' mind.
