The U's simply had to better to match the results of the Notts County and Salford games. Notts County went 1-0 up at home to Bristol Rovers, however Rovers drew level in the 2nd half. With one result going in United's way, all focus then switched to Crawley vs Salford. A draw was won for the U's but with 2 minutes left in the Crawley game, a nervous scent clouded over the Mornflake Stadium. A clear penalty that wasn't given went against Salford led to the surprising 0-0 result. With that, 2,500 fans surged the pitch to celebrate promotion at the first time of asking.
The game in Crewe was horrible to watch. Crewe were much the better side and after Knight's penalty was saved, it seemed that it wouldn't be our day. That being said, the U's were resilient defensively against the 12 men of Crewe. P*sh fan and referee Neil Hair made some incredibly embarrassing decisions against United but it didn't matter in the end. A 0-0 draw left U's fans waiting as we did during the great escape and history repeated itself. A pitch invasion that saw players on fans shoulders, pyros and tears.
Not much can be said about the future as there will be many changes that take place over the coming months. However, what can be said is how influential Harris, Bonner, the players and the fans have been throughout the season. The Amber Army took over once again and the celebrations will continue deep into the summer.
