Welcome to League 2: Fleetwood Town - MK Dons

Fleetwood Town

We start our list with Fleetwood Town who had 3 reformations including the most recent one in 1997. Not to be mixed up with Arsenal, the Cod Army play their home games at Highbury. Holding just over 5,000 fans, it is one of the smallest in the division. The Fishermen finished 14th last season and with Pete Wild in charge they aren't expected to mount any challenge to the top half of the table, especially the playoff chasing teams. Fleetwood Town are not a good football team and an away day that many U's fans will be dreading. Despite competing in League One and Two a lot in recent years, Fleetwood is more known for Mac then it is Town. An early fixture at the Abbey awaits in late September before travelling up north in January for the return fixture.

Gillingham

Up next is Gillingham who are famously anti away fans with their abysmal excuse for an away end. The Gills gave Mark Bonner a chance back into management but after a fantastic first couple months they lost their winning spark and Bonner was subsequently let go. One man's trash is another man's tressure and Bonner is back home and loved but all. Gillingham dropped to 17th last season under the guidance of Gareth Ainsworth following the managerial changes. The Gills have a fairly big stadium for League Two but the 90 minute journey down south on boxing day isn't particularly appetizing for any U's fans. The Gills are expected to finish in a lower midtable position once again but with Ainsworth in charge they will have a better chance of overachieving.

Grimsby Town

The Mariners are a solid League Two side and have been in recent years including a 9th place finish last season. With former Morecambe centre back David Artell in charge the Mariners are aiming to build on a good campaign last year and challenge for promotion. Blundell Park hosts just over 8,000 fans including 600 for away fans. The U's will aim to take all 3 points from a solid League Two side in September which could be vital come May. Obviously both sides are expected to make signings, especially with the U's in the market for a striker and a creative midfielder. 2 exciting fixtures can be expected when the two sides clash and hopefully the U's can add 6 points to their tally as a result.

Harrogate Town

The Harrogate Town that we all know now went through a name change due to football coming back following the end of the Second World War. Formally known as Harrogate Hotspurs they then changed the Harrogate Town and since haven't achieved much. They head into the 2025-26 campaign with Simon Weaver in charge who has been at the club since May 2009. His father, Irving Weaver then took over in 2011 and since been on an impressive upwards trajectory. With only a 5,000 capacity ground the U's must take all 3 points in their clash in February. Harrogate finished 18th last season and are predicted to be in the same position come May 2026.

Milton Keynes Dons

The less said about the Dons the better. One thing that all football fans have a shared hatred to is MK Dons. A huge stadium with a family of 5 located anywhere in the stadium. The atmosphere and everything the club is and stands for is abysmal. Histon FC has a much better atmosphere and more history yet they are in the depths on non league. Unfortunately, the Dons will go up and win the league following their unbelievable signings and Championship level manager.
