Welcome to League Two: Shrewsbury Town - Walsall

Shrewsbury Town

Joining the U's in relegation from League One last season was Michael Appleton's Shrews. Finishing plum last come May was not on the plan for the Shrews, however appointing Appleton at the end of last season they could be on for a decent season and not face back to back relegations. They will be unable to make any impact in the playoff positions and will most likely see themselves in the midtable forgetfulness of League 2. The U's will head back to New Meadow in mid-October for a game that the U's must take all 3 points just like we did last season.

Swindon Town

The Robins have been in transfer talks with the U's over striker Harry Smith but unfortunately the U's were unable to convince Holloway to sell his no.9. Following their midtable finish last season they'll be wanting to improve on that and make a serious push into the playoffs. The County Ground hosts just over 15,000 fans with the U's visiting next weekend. With a season opener against Walsall the Robins have a tough start of the season but that won't stop Holloway's push for promotion.

Tranmere Rovers

Having finished 20th last season the Rovers will be needing a much better season this time around but with a lack of squad depth they will likely see themselves in a similar position come May. I believe that Andy Crosby will be able to lead the Rovers to another year of safety but without much success. Prenton Park is a fantastic stadium and with the ability to host just over 16,000 fans it has the potential to create a fierce atmosphere once results go their way. They will host the U's at the end of September before coming down to the Abbey in January.

Walsall

Despite their official nickname being the Saddlers they have been named the bottlers after their incredible fall off last season that saw them go from title winners to playoff bottlers. The Bescot Stadium will be demanding an immediate return back to winning ways following their awful end of the season last time out. Liam Bennet will face his former team on the 1st January and then again in March.
