Another result thrown away for the U's: 1-1 vs Grimsby Town

The U's travelled up north to face upbeat Grimsby Town. The home side have won 2 of their last 4 games including beating Manchester United on penalties and MK D*ns 3-2 last weekend. Morrison was introduced into the starting 11 alongside Mayor and Gibbons. Kachunga was dropped from the squad and Knight found his way to the bench.

A defensive approach was adopted by the U's which was working a treat in the opening half an hour. Appere was subbed off however, due to a hamstring injury. Kouassi replaced the no.9. It wasn't all doom and gloom for the travelling amber army as just after the half an hour mark, deadline day signing, Mayor struck the games opener with a wonderful finish into the far corner. A well worked Kaikai counter attack found it's way out wide to man in form Brophy. The beautiful ginger winger played it across the box to Mayor who bagged on his first start for the U's. A wonderful first half that consisted on Appere being injured, Morrison being battered and bruised and a lead of the U's to have a think about. Despite having only 37% the U's produced 8 shots compared to Grimsby's 3. Only 61% of the U's passes were accurate in the first half which shows the type of passes that the U's were attempting.

The second half didn't give either spectators much action. A few poor refereeing decisions and some half chances for either side was on display. It was a tactical battle in the second for both managers after many changes from the home side. A huge chance for the home side as Brophy was clearly fouled but no free kick was given. A fantastic ball across the box was played in and the home side weren't able to make it 1-1. A big talking point with just under 10 minutes to play as Gibbons gets into a tussle with a Grimsby man. Gibbons won the ball and then out of nowhere Gibbons is forced to simply put the gentleman on the floor to settle things down. Unfortunately, this didn't calm affairs as all those in black and white thought this was a sign of handbags coming out. Like a middle aged woman in H&M, the handbags certainly did come out. Pushing and shoving resulted in a yellow card for the United man. Bennet was sent to warm up but Gibbons stayed on to the frustration of the home fans. 6 minutes of added time was given by the fourth official which didn't help calm down the irate home fans. This didn't stop Grimsby fans from attending to the fire drill as their side looked for an equaliser. Kouassi gave away a penalty with a matter of seconds left in the game. The penalty is saved but the rebound is followed up in cruel fashion. Once again the U's throw away a fantastic result through individual mistakes.
