Harris made 2 changes from the previously unchanged 11 from the previous 3 games. Dom Ball and Shane McLoughlin both in, replacing Hoddle and Kaikai who were relegated to the bench.
After a slow start to the game, the U's grew into the game and was able to switch play much better and got into great positions. Unfortunately no chances were created.
Oldham made their 1st substitution of the day, bringing off Garner for Quigley due to an injury to the 37 year old starter.
The U's clearly didn't change their boots from Tuesday as their were no chances to boast, poor passing across the pitch and a lack of intensity with the ball. Appere couldn't hold the ball up and was getting silenced by the Oldham defence.
The 1st chance of the game came through Mpanzu who was on the end of a low driven cross from Ball. Mpanzu's shot was the 1st on target of the game and forced a good save out of Hudson at his near post.
Former U's winger and fan favourite, Luke Hannant is brought on at half time as Oldham made their 2nd change of the game.
Both sides were much better in the early stages of the 2nd half. The U's got into some good areas down the right but Hudson was untested. The U's had a breakthrough with Appere entering the box, he could only be fouled and the referee was forced into making an easy penalty decision. Following Tuesday's 1-0 win, it was clear Knight would be back on penalty duty. The top goal scorer in the league for United stepped up and calmly sent Hudson the wrong way and the U's were in the lead.
5 minutes later Knight was back into the thick of it. His deep cross was pulled back by Brophy's head and Appere was unmarked to tap it in. A fantastic move and a much needed goal for Appere. The 10th assist of the season for Brophy who has been getting better the longer he has worn amber.
In a rare substitution, Oldham brought off Quigley who came on in the 1st half for Fondop-Talum. Jalo and Taylor were also introduced for Jack Stevens and Drummond.
The U's were forced to defend a deep corner after Appere was penalised. The free kick was cleared to Mpanzu who found Knight 1v1 with an Oldham defender. Appere busted his guts to join the attack and Knight simply slid the ball across goal for Appere to get his 2nd of the day and kill the game off. A brace for the striker and another for Knight, the U's were flying in the 2nd half.
The U's now sit in 2nd place, 6 points behind Bromley in 1st. 4 points now separate 2nd and 7th so the U's will need to stay sharp both mentally and physically to continue their fantastic form.
