Blues defeat relegated Cambridge United 2-1

A week after relegation was confirmed for the U's and a record amount of points were confirmed for the blues both sides entered week 46 of the League One campaign with nothing to play for. One side who have spent as much as many Premier League sides battling to a side who haven't been able to train at their training ground this year.

Harris brought in Lavery into the starting 11 to the excitment of all 6700 U's fans around the ground. The opening 2 minutes saw 2 chances for Kachunga both missed. The U's were the much better side after the first 30 minutes, limiting chances for Birmingham and creating some half chances. However it was in the 25th minute which saw the league champions take the lead through a miss hit cross that found it's way in the top corner. A defeating goal to concede that summed up our season. However it wasn't all negative for the U's as 9 minutes before the half time break as Lavery scored a great goal with the outside of his boot on the volley from a tight angle, drawing level. The U's went into the break 1-1 and were the better side.

The second half saw 2 changes for the away side and 1 change for Harris' men. Ballard came on to replace goalscorer Lavery to the suprise of many fans. The U's struggled to contain the money spending west midlands side. The away side eventually took the lead through a poor and embarssing own goal by Kell Watts. However it was a dubious red card decison that took the second half by suprise. Kachunga, who has since been confirmed to be staying at the Abbey for next season, was sent off for a poor tackle after already recieving a yellow card. The 2 yellow cards coincided with a red card and a 1 match suspension for the DRC international.

22 times the U's have lost by 1 goal this season concludes the our League One campaign. We will go again next year and with many updates soon to come it is crucial to keep update on our socials.
