Harris brought in Ball, Kaikai and Purrington after McLoughlin was confirmed to be out until December due to an injury. Luckily, Ball was able to recover from his knock and start against Bromley. The U's walked out to their new black history month shirt. Bromley started with a 4-2-3-1 with Cheek up top as the lone striker.
The U's started the game with venom and hunger, following last weeks embarrassing loss. It took under 2 minutes for the deadlock to be broken. Kouassi's shot deflected off Lavery and the ball trickled into the back of the net. Pandemonium ensued as the Abbey erupted in shock and joy from the early goal. The U's continued to knock on the door and only minutes later, the U's came close with Lavery who's shot bobbled up and was fantastically saved with the outstretched right leg of Long. The afternoon then went from good to great as Kouassi showed his physical presence and exquisite finishing prowess after rolling his man and finding the far corner with power and precision. The U's led 2-0 and HMS piss the league was on the roll.
4 changes were made by the away side during the halftime break and with that came a change of system. A 3-5-2 was implemented by Bromley to occupy both United centre backs and overload the midfield 2 of Mpanzu and Ball. This worked wonders for the travelling side who were able to get an early goal back through bagsman Cheek, who is now Bromley's 5th all time scoring leader. The U's were able to see out the game even with an injury to the referee who had to be substituted off. Unfortunately for Harris & Co, this is the 3rd time this season that Bromley had been in this situation this season. Bromley were then able to apply pressure to the United back line which turned into a back 5 with 15 minutes of extra time to play. Despite the abnormally large amount of added time, it didn't effect the final score and the U's claimed another home victory, making them have the best in the division. A fantastic response to the shambolic loss to Shrewsbury and a great performance to build on. 1 loss in the last 5 for Harris is just the form that can help the U's get into the playoff picture.
