Bounce back win on the road

The U's were on the road once again. An away fixture in Round One in the Carabao Cup against fellow relegated side Bristol Rovers. A game with little importance but a win was needed to bounce back from Saturday's 3-2 loss to Swindon.

A handful of changes for Harris as well as a formation change with a 3/5 at the back in effect. A solid display in the first half saw the beautiful Scottish no.9 slot past the keeper with his left foot. Nicknamed the Labrador by some has now got 2 goals in his first 3 games for Cambridge United. Once again I felt that the U's let the opposition back into the game after scoring. Rovers were unable to even get a shot on target in the first 45. A fairly uninspiring first half for both sides but more minutes for Jobe and Mpanzu which is vital as they will no doubt have to play a big part across this season.

The second half started unchanged for the U's. The Rovers were able to sustain pressure on the U's backline for about 5 minutes just before the hour mark. That being said the U's were able to conceded absolutely no chances and tried to him on the break. Brophy, Ball and Loft came on in the 66th minute to replace Kaikai, Mpanzu and Appere. Without touching a ball Brophy was booked for kicking the ball away. 75th minute and out of all players it just had to be Ryan Loft. A fantastic cross from Gibbons while the ball was bouncing fell perfectly for former Rover Ryan Loft. He peeled from his man and headed home. A goal that must be so impactful for the striker. Following the goal, Knight replaced Kachunga with 15 left to go. Not much happened after that. A convincing 2-0 win and 2 clean sheets in 3 games and 5 goals scored in the same timeframe. Onto Harrogate at home now.
