Dominant United bottle it late to Swindon

Harris named an unchanged lineup from the side that lost against Barnet last weekend. Kaikai was reintroduced into the squad after captaining Sierra Leone and scoring a penalty earlier in the week. The Sky cameras were lighting the Abbey as the nation watched upon the promotion clash. Holloway reverted to a back 5 following their draw last time out.

The U's started much the better side. Knight and Mayor were both key targets for the U's to counter attack from. An early Mayor chance went begging following a touch that took him too wide and the ball was blasted into the side netting.

The bright lights of Sky Sports clearly flustered Swindon, who couldn't stop the overlapping wing backs of Mayor and Bennett. Liam's darting run to the backstick was found by Gibbons' cross but the header lacked quality.

The U's finally converted in the 21st minute after brilliant play on the right hand side before Mayor picked the ball up in a 2v2 situation on the left. Gibbons' overlapping run created space and his subsequent cross found the unmarked Knight who smashed home to open the scoring.

Mpanzu's fantastic footwork got himself out of 3v1 and played his pass to Knight. Knight then found Appere in plenty of space who's cross found the goal scorer, but his shot blazed into the NRE.

The U's continued to push for a second and a carbon copy of the first goal found itself to Brophy on his preferred left foot. Unfortunately, Brophy's shot was far too easy for Ripley in the Swindon net. Brophy then looked to make amends for his missed chance as he had the ball on the edge of the box. His curled effort was deflected and trickled just wide of the post.

Swindon's first chance came through a long ball in behind to Holman but Eastwood easily saved the 1v1. It took over 35 minutes for Holloway's men to create a chance. An extremely embarrassing display from his side in the opening 45.

The U's entered the half time break with a 1-0 lead and dominating across the pitch. As it stood the U's were up to 2nd, 4 points behind Bromley and 1 point ahead of MK Dons with the same amount of games played.

Another massive chance goes begging by Knight. A long ball to Appere was cleared only as far to Knight. After skipping past 1 Knight glanced at Ripley in a Mexican standoff 8 yards from the goal. Knight looked to finish hard and low to Ripley's left but it was superbly saved for a corner.

Veteran striker, Ollie Palmer, was irate with his teammate to the joy of all those in attendance (bar the Swindon fans). A beautiful Sky Sports picture for the U's fans. Palmer then continued to complain after Jobe prevents him from winning the header.

The U's looked to contain Swindon in build up and force Holloway's men to go long. Contain, is the perfect description of the 2nd half performance. The U's made up for the poor performance away at Barnet and responded superbly. Appere was linking play and creating great chances for Knight & Co. His best performance in a United shirt by far. Despite this, he was brought off for Lavery after 80 unbelievable minutes.

Knight was brought off with nothing shy of an excellent performance to look back on. Kaikai returned to the side following international duty.

Swindon didn't give up and in the 90th minute a low cross got was goal bound and once again the U's drop points at home to a promotion side. The U's should have converted their many chances and once again are made to pay.

With the U's banging on the door for a late winner, Nevitt was brought on for Mpanzu. Mpanzu played superbly, like the rest of the team, but Harris was desperate to take home all 3 points.

A disappointing result after a fantastic performance. With 6 games left to play, there is still plenty of time for the U's to finish in the top 3.
