The first half had limited chances for either side. Digby received a yellow card within the first minute for preventing a counter attack. This set the tone from referee to the disappointment and frustration of the home set of fans. Wycombe slightly controlled possession in the first half half having 56% of the ball. With this they managed to create 7 shots, 2 on target. It was in the 35th minute in which one of those shots was converted. Humphreys reacted first to a spilt shot by Jack Stevens. The Cambridge United one deflected the ball into the path of Humphreys who stabbed it home to open the scoring. Ballard came closest for the home side after hitting the crossbar with a volley on the left hand side of the box. The shot skimmed the woodwork however Ravizzoli wasn't called into action.
A change would have to be made in order for the relegation battling side to come back in this game. Monk's half time team talk certainly did work as in the 64th minute following a deep ball towards the back post Morrison is struck in the face by the elbow of Bradley and the former Derby man saw red. Having won the penalty, responsibility was on loanee Josh Stokes who was unable to convert as he saw his penalty saved and unable to bundle the ball in at the follow up. Having missed the penalty Stokes continued to keep up the hard work and after shrugging off a defender wrapped the ball into the far post in the 83rd minute. Brophy had his curled effort in the 93rd minute clawed away by a full stretched Ravizzoli who put the ball behind for a corner. Despite the late surge of chances and pressure the U's were unable to find a winner. The home side felt rightly upset come full time as the referee seemed to call for fulltime whilst Cambridge United were still attacking.
Up next for the U's is an away tie against Lincoln City who sit 12th and in reaching distance of the playoffs. A tough tie however a good result is certainly on the cards for the travelling side.
