Harris brought Purrington into the starting lineup but remained with 10 others that started against Salford. Despite rain lashing down in Cambridge over the last 2 days, the game went ahead. Ian Darler and his fellow ground staff did a great job to get the pitch prepared for this League Two clash.
The opening 25 minutes had a handful of shots, none troubled either keeper, no action and some poor officiating. Barnet were very structured and didn't allow any early chances for the U's. Likewise, Morrison was winning everything and the only shot's conceded were ones at distance.
Eastwood was called into action at the end of the 1st half. A close range effort was superbly saved by the former Grimsby man but got a knock in the process. The U's were able to sustain the pressure from the away side and went into the half time break level.
The second half was opened up with heart breaking news for all U's fans. Bagsman Kouassi came off injured with what seems to be a hamstring injury. Our striker depth chart now reads as such: Lavery (injured), Kouassi (injured) and Appere (coming back from an injury and not fit enough to play 90 minutes). To add insult to injury, Barnet came out the second half and were even better then they were in the first half.
The U's then remembered they were playing at home and decided to start creating chances. Mayor saw his 60 yard solo run saved at the near post before Appere's flick was claimed by the keeper. The U's were now controlling the affair and the Abbey responded as such.
The U's continued to apply pressure but the Barnet back line stayed strong. With 5 minutes of added time allocated the U's looked to hit on the counter and use Mayor as their main outlet. Unfortunately, the game finished 0-0 on a gloomy day in Cambridge.
