Brady's blues batter the U's

First half

A disappointing affair for the travelling side in amber. The blue's kicked the game off and immediately dominated possession and controlled throughout. A bombardment of corners and shots targeting Bishop in goal was too much to handle as after a penalty in the 23rd minute. Brophy gave the penalty away after a shoulder to shoulder collision with Laird. Stansfield, who had scored 6/6 penalties this season, stepped up and his shot was blasted down the middle and finds the back of the net. St Andrew's erupted and the persistence to win the game wasn't slowed down by the early goal. 2 goals in 2 minutes were followed up coming in the 39th and 40th minute. At first it was Liam Bennet who coolly slotted home into his own net after a deep cross from Anderson. Things only went from bad to worse for the U's as 1 minute later a counter attack from Birmingham City capped off a great first half for them. The goal was smartly constructed and calmly finished off by Dowell who slotted the ball across goal and into the bottom corner. A fantastic first half for the home side, really showing their quality or rather the poor nature of Cambridge United this season.

Second half

The U's make 2 changes during the half with Gibbons and Stokes replacing Bennet and Loft, who both were poor for difference yet neither excusable. The home side also made a change bringing on Bielik for Iwata. Half time didn't prevent the domination and after a Stevenson tug on Stansfield in the 59th minute results in a penalty. Bishop got booked for keeping the ball for far too long however it was worth it as he saved the low driven shot down the middle. A continous barrage of corners persuied however nothing came of it. Njoku came on in the 61st minute alongside Cousins who replaced Kachunga and Stevenson. 4 strategic and tactical changes followed by the home side to deny any chances of injuries. The game was officially wrapped up after a Luke Harris goal in the 80th minute made it 4-0. Hoddle comes on for Brophy to complete the 5 changes for Monk's men. 5 minutes of added time were given which only delayed the enevatable hammering of the U's.

Up next for the U's

A poor, disappointing and uninspiring performance for the U's only make our task of survival that 1 step harder. A crucial game approaching us come midday on Saturday. Our awful luck continues with an awful refereeing decision leading to Stansfield's goal. The players weren't good enough today. That being said I still believe that we can stay up however the chances are slimming by the game week. A tall order is glaringly obvious to all those around the club.

Fan reactions

A similar theme from all supporting the side in amber tonight. Many calling for Monk to be sacked alongside Strang. However some, more reasonable, understanding the opposition's quality thus making a calmer evaluation of the game. Others also noticing the strengths that the youth players possessed when coming on.
