Cambridge United share points away to Bromley

Cambridge United travelled down south to Bromley for their first away game of the League One season. Both sides earned promotion to League One after two fantastic campaigns respectively. Cambridge United have never won at Hayes Lane, so there was a clear task for the players as they entered the game.

Starting 11's

Bromley remained unchanged after their 1-0 away win at Barnsley, whilst Harris made just one change from the Wigan victory. Bradshaw was replaced by Mpanzu, who played as a 10 with Isaac Heath playing as a left wing-back. Youngster Efobi remained on the bench for the 2nd consecutive League One game.

U's threatened in the opening 45

As was the case last season, United started the game as the much better side. Across the first half, Harris' side had 70% possession and seven shots. The U's completed 155 more passes in the first half than the home side, Bromley. The U's defence allowed just one shot, which was on target but didn't trouble Eastwood in goal. Kell Watts registered more touches in the opposition box than Bromley had in the first half. Bromley didn't have a single touch in the Cambridge box across the 48 minutes in the first half.

Heath, Mpanzu, Knight and Appere linked up superbly in the final third, and despite two penalty appeals the U's couldn't make it count and went into the half-time break level.

McLoughlin hobbled off with mere seconds left in the first half and was replaced by Kaikai as Mpanzu dropped into the role the former Newport County midfielder had been playing.

Knight in shining armour

Bromley increased the tempo of their play and somehow were more physical in the second half. United looked to counter with pace through Heath, Knight and Kaikai, and that's exactly how the U's took the lead. Mpanzu won the ball back on the edge of his own box and lofted a pass into Heath. Heath laid the pass off for Kaikai, whose switched pass found Knight with only one defender to beat. Knight took a delicate first touch to get past the defender and a cool finish between the keeper's legs gave United the opening.

A dominant display for 70 minutes saw Bauer and Lavery on for Appere and Knight. Despite scoring, Knight sat down with what looked to be a tight right hamstring.

Adeboyejo brings Bromley level

The U's looked to defend the lead with 20 minutes to go in the game, but a cross caused the U's trouble and the former United loanee smashed in the equaliser. During his eight games at the club he wasn't able to net for the club, but now he's facing them he gets a goal back. A great strike, but poor defending allowed Bromley to get back into the game and force Harris into replacing Perry and Heath with McConnell and Bradshaw.

Focus turns to Carabao Cup 2nd round

Following today's draw, Cambridge United remain unbeaten and focus their attention to Tuesday's Millwall tie in the Carabao Cup. In the Harris derby, the U's will look to book their ticket into the third round for the 2nd consecutive season.
