No.
The former United star midfielder had 2 stints at the Abbey between 2010-14 and then again between 2015-2017. During his tenure at the club he played over 250 times scoring a staggering 51 goals from midfield. A Cambridge born youth player was a fan favourite and our best player. With the U's fighting midtable in League Two for 3 years after Berry helped get us promoted into League Two, he chose to leave for rivals Luton Town. At the time Luton Town were in League Two after getting promoted out of the National League in the same year as Cambridge United. The year prior to his exit Luton won 1 more game then the U's and finished just 11 points above United.
The club statement from Cambridge United was clear. Titled "Cambridge United statement Luke Berry", it was clear that the club didn't want to sell Berry and certainly not to a League Two rival. However, despite offering the Cambridge born player a new contract, Berry put in a written transfer request and sought to speak to Luton specifically. The club was forced to sell Berry for certainly a much lower price than usual and Luton took our best player which saw them lose in the playoffs. Cambridge United rejected 2 bids from other clubs and 2 offers in 3 days from Luton before eventually being forced into selling Berry.
The actions of Luke Berry led to snake emojis and hurls of abuse including Judas. The club were clear that he was a protected player to build around but the local academy prodigy chose money over loyalty and thus shouldn't be welcomed back. Certainly not at 33 years old and the high wages he clearly cares about. Fans should remember this when rumours circulate about his return.
