Why shooooooot is ruining football

Football fans around the world love to scream shooooooot when a player is at the edge of the box. I'm not sure why. However, I believe there are multiple factors as to why fans scream this.

FIFA/EAFC

As ridiculous as it sounds, as FIFA/EAFC has grown in popularity and dominated the gaming sphere it has led fans to believe that shooting from distance is an easy task. Unfortunately, in the professional game is a lot harder then any video game. This hasn't stopped fans screaming it every time the ball is at least 35 yards out and the attacking side aren't pressed to an inch of their body.

Desperation

As a Cambridge fan I see this a lot. The desperation of getting goal causing fans resulting in thinking that a low percentage effort is much better then being patient and trying to carve out a better chance. The same fans that scream for a player to shoot from range will be the first ones complaining that it wasn't on target.

Impatience

As a society we are becoming more impatient by the day. A study from February 2024 by the University of Texas at Austin outlined 2 key factors. The end is near, but not enough and the need for closure. When translated to English football fans, the need for a goal seems so close but not close enough. When a player is on the edge of the box and near the goal it seems to close to a goal but just not quite there. This impatience from society has clearly translated into football.

Everybody knows everything

Every football fan claims to know best. Better then their friends. Better then semi-professionals. Even better then professionals. However, if everybody knew better then the professionals then everyone would be a professional manager. The ego of football fans, especially English fans, is known to come during the 90 minutes. This ego makes many think they are the next Pep Guardiola despite, usually, never playing or coaching at any high level.

All these factors combine to make a very frustrating viewing and has angered managers such as Potter, who pleaded fans to stop shouting shoot as he believes it actually distracts players. For those who say Potter isn't a good enough manager for this example, Jurgen Klopp also was irate at fans screaming shoot when Joe Gomez had the ball. Joe Gomez has never scored for Liverpool.
