Signing no.1 : Ben Knight

The first signing of the season has now been confirmed. Only a month after the League One season ended the U's have made an addition to the squad. A youngster from Cambridge who had great spells at Man City's youth teams has joined a thin squad. Knight is the first of many signings that will be announced in the coming weeks ahead of pre season on Monday 23rd June.

Ben Knight, born on the 14th June 2002, is originally from Cambridge. He played for Burwell Tigers growing up before signing for Ipswich. It was in Norfolk where he showed his class and was then signed by Man City for a reported £1 million at just the age of 16. At such a young age he had former Newcastle player Kieran Dyer comparing him to Messi. Many tipped him to be the next best thing for Pep Guardiola and Man City, however after departing last summer on a free it seemed as if the game had forgotten about him. After a rather disappointing 6 months in Spain he came back home and was training with Harris. Harris clearly took a fancy to the soon to be 23 year old and has now confirmed the rumours.

A tricky winger with bags of raw talent and hunger now he's back home. Knight can play on the left wing and as an attacking midfielder but is best and most effective off the right hand side. A versatile attacker who loves showing off his flair is just the player we need and will now have. We have lacked someone of his raw ability in a long time and with lots of experience around him on the pitch and side lines, we could have a dangerous winger on our hands.

During his club interview, Knight touched on just how hard the last few months had been following his departure from Spain. This shows the hunger and will that Ben has to keep fighting to play and enjoy football. A trait that many fans feel have been lacking in recent times. With only a 1 year contract he will have to prove himself very quickly.

With our transfer targets series coming to a conclusion we here at the NRE Report can confirm that we have perfectly outlined a signing and within 12 hours it has been confirmed. Now onto hopefully the dozen or so more signings and the contract decisions of Kaikai and Bennet.
