The Abbey is left without a Monk

Following the public statement at 5pm the U's can confirm Gary Monk has left his role as Cambridge United manager. The writing was on the walls having walked straight down the touchline following yesterday's 1-0 loss at home to Exeter. He had also recently opted out of speaking to the media only a matter of weeks ago. The former Swansea City manager had been under pressure after just 9 games after failing to record a league victory. Nevertheless it was following poor recent form and an awful league position that resulted in the Monk leaving the Abbey.

With the side now without a manager and the fans only having a rather cryptic message from the board what is next for the U's? As usual it is likely that Barry Corr will become the interim manager whilst the pursuit for a permanent manager is ongoing. Current available managers include Wayne Rooney, Gary O'Neil and Millwall legend Neil Harris. Although all 3 could happen I highly doubt any will. Harris seems the most likely decision out of that short list as he was last in CB5 last season. In the club statement, the board gave fans belief by mentioning "We will say more about this in the week". This can lead us to believe for the foreseeable future it will be Barry Corr in charge due to there being a lack of information.

A tough week for the Cambridge United staff as Ben Strang left his role as sporting director of football and only 3 days later Gary Monk left his role as manager. A turbulent time is beaconing for the U's and with a lot of important decisions and games approaching the board and players will need to be perfect in order to sail through this turbulence.

The bookies have Mark Bonner at 4/1 following his departure from Gillingham earlier this season. Steven Gerrard and John Terry at a surprising 25/1.However it is still too early to detect what is possible. Personally Ian Evatt or Paul Warne as much as it might be a stretch would be great additions to the Abbey if we could attract them.

More news to follow in the coming week!
