Following the U's 1-0 win against Brighton & Hove Albion U-21 on Wednesday, Harris' men will travel up to Manchester to take on Salford City. Salford managed to beat Lincoln on penalties last Saturday in the FA Cup. That adds to their unbeaten run stretching all the way back until 18 October as they overcame Oldham at home. Their last loss was on the road against Chesterfield. Finding themselves sat in a lofty 3rd place they will enter tomorrows fixture full of confidence. Sitting only 4 points above 13th place Cambridge United, the game will be open and exciting in both boxes.
Harris classed the last 2 games (Chester and B&HA U-21) as being professional. Harris was clear about the levels that his side need to reach in order to beat Salford. Harris was still cagey and unsure as to why his sides performances away from the Abbey have been poor. With one of the best home records in the country, having an atrocious away record is not only shocking but also embarrassing.
Striker Appere will travel with the side to Salford however is going to be gradually implemented into the squad over the coming weeks. That being said Harris will speed that process up if needs be.
When discussing the opposition, Harris was aware of their forward threat and Salford's ability to pin a team back with their attacking flair. Harris requires his players to be more creative in the attacking third. Harris has questioned if changes to the build up and press may impact the away results. Harris took responsibility in this and if they are systematic changes and tweaks or personnel changes that can result in these inconsistent results and performances.
Hoddle isn't expected to go on another loan for the foreseeable future. Glenn McConnell may go on loan but with him training with the first team and getting more minutes under Neil Harris, who is a "Glenn McConnell fan", his future at the club long term is to say at the Abbey.
