The U's fell for the 2nd time in 2026 last time out against Barnet. The U's now have full focus on a busy Easter weekend with a televised Thursday game against Swindon before travelling to Cheltenham on Easter Monday. 7 games left in the campaign, U's sat 4th yet only 1 point behind Notts County in 3rd with a game in hand and a clash between the 2 sides is set for next Saturday at the Abbey. With momentum clearly being against United, having just 9 shots on target in the last 3 games. 7 of those 9 shots on target came in a 1-0 win vs Salford City.
The Barnet game was a "Terrible game" by all accords from fans and Neil Harris. The U's conceded a goal from a corner which is possibly the most unlikely way a team can score against the U's. A very poor attacking display will need to be focused intensely in training as we are now in the business end of the season. The U's have the 3rd lowest amount of goals in the top 10, sitting on just 56 goals in 39 games, however their 29 goals conceded has led the U's to be challenging for promotion.
With the U's having a fairly old squad, with an average age of 27.7, lots of the players have enjoyed promotion before. Mpanzu, Kachunga, Morrison, Gibbons to name a few have all been promoted as well as players and staff having immense experience in the game. This can be crucial for the U's as those players have the knowledge of the mental aspect and preparation needed to get over the line. A study in November 2025 from the University of Algiers, confirmed that mental preparation contributes to a footballers ability on the pitch when pushing for promotion.
This can also be applied to the fans. The fans nerves inevitably impact the players ability to perform especially at home. The U's have the best home record in the league, only losing once and taken 44 points from the 19 games.
The U's last beat Swindon in 2018 courtesy of 2 goals in 2 minutes. The first coming from Reggie Lambe, the second converted by Jevani Brown. Since that midweek clash in 2018, Swindon have won the last 3 league clashes between the 2 sides. With a horrible record against Swindon and having already taken 3 points from Harris and his players, the U's will need to be on it from the off.
